Link sharing now generates 10% of total visits to websites. <\/strong>This, according to a study released this week by ShareThis<\/a>, the creators of the popular \u201csharing button\u201d found on so many websites. The study found that sharing constitutes about 31% of all referral traffic<\/strong>. The other giant in terms of referral traffic, search, is twice as big as sharing.<\/p>\n

Based on volume, links shared on Facebook generates the biggest number of clicks<\/strong>.\u00a0 But Twitter actually garners the higher number of clicks per link.<\/p>\n

Share If You Care <\/strong><\/p>\n

When it comes to sharing links on the web, everyone is an influencer. The study also found that a large number of people are influential on one or two topics that are important to them.\u00a0 That is, sharing truly is a democracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sharing Doesn\u2019t Mean Viral<\/strong><\/p>\n

But link sharing isn\u2019t necessarily \u201cviral.\u201d\u00a0 If we know each other and I share a link, chances are you\u2019ll click. But if you in turn re-share the same link, the click rate will drop.<\/p>\n
